Behind-the-Scenes of DEVORA — A Blog for Auckland’s Volcanic Research

Auckland is the City of Volcanoes and it deserves its own blog—this is what Elaine Smid, DEVORA research assistant since 2008, was thinking many years ago, so she started one. In the early days of DEVORA, our official website had very limited content. Elaine started the blog as a way to share the behind-the-scenes stories of DEVORA, including her own research, an adventure through a lava cave, an investigation of suspicious bubbling, and a day on the Rangitoto drilling rig, as well as several guest posts featuring DEVORA researchers and their work. Since the blog’s inception, DEVORA has grown to include a website, and social media presence through a Facebook page. Through this blog Elaine shares long-form stories about DEVORA, offers answers to frequency asked questions about the Auckland Volcanic Field, provides key facts about Auckland’s volcanoes, and offers a sneak-peek into the life of a volcano scientist.
